My Mom sure knew how to do this just right! I can remember my Dad claiming the "burnt parts" usually the edges that were nice and crispy. As we all got older he would have to learn to share those "burnt parts" with all us kids that developed a liking towards them.
Ingredients:
1/2 block of velveta cheese (or 1 small block), cut into cubes
1 bag of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 tbls of worstirshire sauce
1 1/2 tsp of salt
1 tbls of fresh cracked pepper
1-2 cups whole milk
1/2 stick of butter
1-2 tbls of flour (I use wondra, found in the flour section of the grocery store, no lumps)
1 box of elbow macarroni or corkscrew macarroni
1 large glass baking dish
Cook macarroni in boiling water ( do NOT overcook, you don't want them mushy)
Drain and run cool water and set aside.
In sauce pan melt butter on med high heat, wisk in flour or wondra to make a "rue" , add approx 1-2 cups of milk or half and half, add pepper, worstirshire sauce, salt and wisk togeather, add all the cheese a little bit at a time, continuing to wisk until all cheese is melted and you have made a delicious cheese sauce. Pour half of the sauce into baking dish, then pour in pasta and mix well, then pour the rest of the cheese sauce over , again mixing well. HINT: if you are making Brochilii as a vegatable reserve 1/2 cup of the sauce to pour over the fresh cooked brocholii supppper yummo).
Set oven on bake at 425 degrees baked in oven for approx 8 minutes, then put baking dish on upper rack and turn oven to broil, keep on broil for approx 2-3 minutes watching that the top does not burn just gets brown and crispy. Take out of oven let set for approx 5 minutes and serve with your favorite meat. GREAT with Ham dinner!
